Brother MFC-4550
Black-and-white printing is still a need, no matter what developments are made in printing. Sure it’s nice to have color capabilities, but the truth is, most users make use of their monochrome printing much more often than their color printing, and some consumers don’t use color at all. For those who wish for only black-and-white capabilities, the Brother MFC-4550 might be great option. Not only will it offer printing, but it comes ready to scan, fax and copy as well.
Printing and copying at a slow 6 pages per minute, you may find the machine to be a little sluggish compared to its competitors on the market. It does offer resolutions as high as 600×600 dpi that should make up for its slow speeds, though. It comes standard with 1 MB of RAM, and that can be upgraded to 3 MB for those who need just a tad more memory. Its input tray can hold up to 200 pages at a time, and business cards, envelopes, plain paper, labels and transparencies all have the ability to be printed on. The paper path is a straight paper path, which is known for its ability to reduce paper jams.
Lightweight, the Brother MFC-4550 weighs only 18.74 pounds. It also has a very compact size of 15.13×17.81×9.89 inches will make it easy to place wherever you’d like it to go. It is only compatible with Windows operating systems, which could be a drawback for a lot of users, and it only offers connection via parallel port, which is ancient compared to newer models that offer USB, ethernet and wireless connections. Its needed black toner cartridge will last 2,200 pages before it expires, making the operating cost of this machine quite low. Though it lacks the speed of newer models out there, its low cost might be worth the wait.
